This year as a class we all went on a trip to the National Portrait Gallery and the Photographers Gallery in Central London. The NPG was newly furbished and we got to experience Paul McCartney's exhibition: Eye of the Storm in the new building which was very cool. Then we went to the Portraits Gallery to see the work of Johnny Pitts and Evelyn Hofer with different work on each level of floor.
Paul McCartney
Photographs
1963–64:
Eyes of the Storm
This exhibition was all about the Beatles and Paul McCartney photographing their tour life from the UK to U.S from 1963-64. The layout of the exhibition was cleverly laid out to show different rooms for each location for example Miami or Liverpool, which each place having a slight different type of photographs for example Miami was mainly shot in colour which really stood out compared to the black and white shot in all the other areas. Also each room with its chosen area had a different wall colour which I thought changed the mood of the photos and how you might perceive the emotions in them.

My 3 highlights:
The following pictures are ones that i have picked out of the crowd and and was my favourite for different types of reason.
2nd highlight - portraits in Paris, contact sheet:
I chose this piece because I thought it was a whole other way to show his work, using a contact shows all the photos not just the chosen one, giving life and originality to them. Also the fact it had the markings of the photos that Paul had chosen which allows you to think about his process of choosing them. |
